PSB Media is proud to offer our daily industry newsletter...

SportsPipe, PSB Media's daily sports industry newsletter delivered via e-mail, was born via the merger of two PSB Media newsletters, "TV SportsFile" and "netSports." PSB Media principals Dantia Gould and Barry Gould have been providing sports media business news and information continuously since 1982.

SportsPipe's daily e-letter provides breaking news and information on the business of distributing sports programming and information through various electronic conduits or 'pipes', e.g. TV broadcasts, cable, Internet, broadband, satellite, HDTV and sports content to wireless devices.

Much has happened over the last three years in the business of sports content on the Internet. The Internet has altered business plans of sports teams, leagues, associations, and television networks. Teams have been successful in establishing fan communities online that allow a two-way interaction never possible before. The web has effectively increase venue ticket sales, expanded team merchandise sales and stimulated TV ratings. Online services such as fantasy sports, and memorabilia auctions have become reliable revenue sources.

Not all has been positive. The dotcom meltdown has laid waste many online sports services. The main lesson learned is to use the Internet as a complement to other sports media and a value-added feature to established fan services.

While some operations have shut down after losing millions of dollars, companies like Broadband Sports and Quokka Sports, others are investing carefully in site redesigns. Major League Baseball has followed the NBA by centralizing its efforts, achieving economies of scale. The re-launch of Fox Sports.com this summer has been highly anticipated. The NFL has given the category a major shot in the arm by making a $300 million deal with CBS, AOL and SportsLine to manage NFL.com.

SportsPipe is designed for the busy executive who needs to have all the bases covered quickly and without frills. Each edition leads with the top news stories of the day. Highly departmentalized, the newsletter is organized in easy to find sections, including:

REGIONAL NETWORK NOTES
Coverage of regional sports networks has always been a major part of our editorial plan, with the publication's extensive contacts in this area providing a wealth of continuing information on these entities. The Internet strategies of these networks have stimulated ratings and offer increased exposure for advertisers and sponsors of TV telecasts. SportsPipe will also track the development of interactive TV and HDTV as they impact regional sports networks.

PROGRAMMING NOTES
From ABC and ESPN to TBS and TNT, from CNN/SI to TNN, this section offers continuing programming updates to keep you up-to-date with what networks are scheduling. The publication will also include sports content on various online sports services. an area that will grow in the years to come.

SPORTSPIPE BUSINESS
Reporting on public offerings and financial results as well as mergers and acquisitions related to companies which are involved in television and Internet sports is a vital element of the newsletter. In emerging markets such as Internet sports, interactive TV, HDTV and wireless applications, SportsPipe will put major emphasis on this critical segment of the coverage.

AD/BANNER BUSINESS
Television sports advertising and advertising on the Internet are counted on as major revenue generators by sports networks and Internet sports companies. When a sluggish economy impacts ad spending, the ramifications are felt in both market segments. This section of the newsletter will keep you apprised of what deals are being made on both the televsion and Internet sides of sports advertising as both TV networks and sports web sites compete for advertising dollars.

SPORTSPIPE TECH NOTES
The options for piping sports content and programming to consumers are growing and being refined every day. This department will keep readers up-to-date on the innovations that impact various sports interests as interactive TV, HDTV and broadband are revolutionize the business of sports.
